Local artist, and Delta Arts Alliance (DAA) Art Instructor, Sarah Deason installed the Faces of KDS, a Self Portriat Installation Piece on Friday, February 2, 2007 with the assistance of DAA volunteers, Brig Aylward, Lori Hoskins, and Jesse Strassburg. Frames were donated by Adventure Frames of Cleveland. The collection will remain on the construction wall at 104 S. Court Street in Cleveland, Mississippi surrounding the Ellis Theater until exterior resotration is complete. The target completion date is April 16, 2007. Portraits were created by children in:
- A.W. James Elementary School in Drew, Mississippi - After-School KDS Program, grades 1st - 3rd, teachers Mrs. Davis & Mrs. Jenkins
- Parks Elementary School in Cleveland, Mississippi In-School KDS Program, 1st grade, teachers Mrs. Melton, Ms. Vance, Mrs. Rogers, Ms. Jones, Mrs. Waller, & Mrs. Walker
- Saint Gabriel's Mercy Center in Mound Bayou, Mississippi - After-School KDS Program, grades 1st - 5th, teachers Mr. Holloway & Mrs. Toole
The DAA / KDS Kids Program provides in-school and after-school arts education in delta schools at no cost to the children or school districts. Participating schools are McEvans Elementary in Shaw, Ruleville Elementary, Parks Elementary in Cleveland, I.T. Montgomery School and Saint Gabriel's Mercy Center in Mound Bayou, A.W. James Elementary School in Drew, and Ray Brooks School in Benoit. Funding is provided by the Kings Daughters and Sons Circle Number Two, Inc. and from the generous support of local arts patrons. Delta Arts Alliance Programming Chair, Dr. Lenagene Waldrup along with Sarah Deason plan and implement this ongoing program with the assistance of the aforementioned school districts.
